Questions
What owners ask before they call
What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Owner-run companies: shops, restaurants, contractors, small manufacturers, studios and professional practices. Most have under fifty people.
Which practice areas do you cover?
Starting a company, buying or selling one, disputes and handing the business on. For tax, employment and estate questions we work with your advisers or refer you to someone who does it every day.
Do I need a lawyer to start an LLC?
Not to file one. You need a lawyer for the agreement between owners, because that is what the state doesn’t ask for and a court will read later.
How do your fees work?
Fixed fees for work with a clear shape, such as a company setup. An hourly rate or an estimate by stage for work that depends on the other side, such as a dispute. You get it in writing first.
Is the first call free?
A first call is a chance for both of us to decide whether we fit. We’ll tell you on the phone, before you book, whether there is a charge.
What if my partner is also calling you?
We’ll check for a conflict before we say anything about your matter. If we’ve already spoken to the other side, we’ll tell you and can’t act for you.
Can we work together without meeting?
Yes. Phone, video and signed documents by email handle most of it. In-person meetings are for when you want one.
Still weighing it up?
Send a line about what’s in front of you. You’ll hear back from a lawyer within a business day.
A first call doesn’t make us your lawyers; a signed engagement letter does.
